Indoor air quality is a growing concern among home and business owners. Homes and buildings are being built tighter to be more energy efficient. Existing properties are being tightened up with weather stripping and insulation. These energy savings come with a price since the exchange of indoor air and fresh outdoor air is limited.
When the indoor air becomes dirty and polluted, it is trapped and re-circulated. It is imperative to clean the air by filtering out these contaminants because they can cause flu-like symptoms such as headaches, nausea, and respiratory irritation. Asthma and allergies can also be aggravated by contaminated air.
There are a number of things you can do to reduce the amount of pollutants in the air. Frequent vacuuming and dusting can help, but the smallest particles that cause the irritation can only be removed by filtering devises.
There are three distinct types of indoor pollutants:
Particulates:
| dust | animal dander |
| pollen | carpet fibers |
| dust mites | lint |
Micro-Organisms:
| mold | viruses |
| influenza | bacteria |
| fungi | germs |
Toxins (gases):
| benzene | carpet fumes |
| chemical vapors | pet odors |
| formaldehyde | ozone |
| carbon monoxide | cleaning vapors |
| paint | smoke |
| pesticides |
